Yemane Berhane, Professor of Epidemiology & Public Health and Director of the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health. Yemane Berhane graduated as a medical doctor in 1987 and completed a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health training in 2000 from Umea University, Sweden. He has a wide range of research interests in public health including maternal/child health, infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases. He has been involved in many research projects and produced more than 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has been teaching since 1992 first at Addis Ababa University and then at Addis Continental Institute of Public Health in Ethiopia since 2006. Currently, he is focused on graduate level research training, advising masters and doctoral students and mentoring postdoctoral fellows.
Yemane Berhane is a Founding Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences. He has served in many national and international committees and taskforces including serving as President of the Ethiopian Public Health Association (1995-99); Associate Vice Present for Research and Graduate Studies at Addis Ababa University (2001-02); Regional Director for Measure Evaluation Anglophone Africa Training on Monitoring and Evaluation of health Programs (2005-06); Member of the WHO/AFRO Technical Advisory Group on Measles Control in Africa (2005-2016), and chair of the Global network of Monitoring and evaluation training center (GEMNET-Health, 2012-2014).
