Emma is the Founder and Director of The Equality Institute, based in Australia. Prior to that  she was the Head of Research with Partners for Prevention: a joint UN programme for the prevention of violence against women, where she led the UN Multi-country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific. She has undertaken research on violence against women and girls for over a decade, chiefly in Asia and the Pacific, and her special interest is the impact of globalisation on violence prevalence. Emma is the author of the book Domestic Violence in Asia: Globalization, gender and Islam in the Maldives and a number of journal articles and reports on violence against women.
